Papacitos appears to have closed just 3 months after opening
The newest restaurant in Southtown may also be one of its shortest-lived.
Papacitos, the So-Cal-inspired taco and burrito restaurant in Southtown, which officially opened on Cinco de Mayo of this year, seems to be closed.
The restaurant promoted itself as “Not Your Average Taco Spot” and served tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, and specialty margaritas. Honestly, they had a decent Sangria, a little greasy, but the street tacos were solid, and the homemade red salsa was pretty good, along with the chips.
Three months after opening, the business appears to have shut its doors.
Papacitos’ website, which previously featured online ordering and its full menu, now displays only a “Coming Soon” message. Its Instagram account has disappeared, its Facebook page is no longer available, and people passing by have noticed it closed during normal business hours.
Papacitos was operated by the Bodhi Group, led by local chef and entrepreneur Cody Utzman. The restaurant replaced a Bodhi-operated coffee shop that had itself only recently opened in the same building after taking over the former Futura Coffee location.
The concept was a major pivot for the location. Rather than continuing as a neighborhood cafe, the space was transformed into a Mexican-inspired fast-casual restaurant with an expanded bar program and later operating hours.
Some questioned whether the location could support another Mexican restaurant, particularly with Burrito Heaven located directly across the street. As of writing, neither Papacitos nor the Bodhi Group has publicly announced a permanent closure or explained what comes next for the Southtown property.
