Construction has made some visible gains on The Wheel, inside and out.
McMenamins says the new spot adjacent to the McMenamins downtown location will now open on October 7th.

The opening does raise a question. Will McMenamins Passport holders need to get a separate stamp for The Wheel? Or is it rolled into the current stamp for the downtown location?
The new location could make some fanatics stumble on their way to collecting every required location stamp, you know… in order to hit that “Cosmic Tripster” status.
The Cosmic Tripster final prize package includes hotel stays, concert or movie tickets, merchandise, and an invitation to a Cosmic Tripster party… all valued at around a $1000.
The new bar will occupy the small, octagonal building in front of the existing pub. The building previously housed Rush Hour Photo & Cellular, a photo-processing and mobile-phone business that operated there during the 1990s.
For those of you not in the know, the 90’s were a crucial time period when we needed to get our film… from our cameras, developed and processed in an hour. So we could then post them to… our fridge.

McMenamins describes The Wheel as a cozy gathering place inspired by alpine huts, enchanted forests, snowy enclaves, and small sanctuaries where people have gathered for centuries to drink, trade stories, and escape the darkness outside.

The interior will include stained glass and artwork drawing from natural, mystical, and mythical themes. Its name also pulls from ideas of fortune, fate, and the changing seasons, along with “The Wheel,” a song performed by the Grateful Dead.

Construction photos show that the wheel is still turning. If the company’s newly announced schedule holds, it will stop long enough to let customers inside beginning October 7.
