In a recent post on Common Fields’ social media accounts, Owner Jacob Oliver said he had hoped the council would offer some relief while it considered a longer-term fix to the SDC fee structure.
“While I was not expecting a resolution overnight, I had hoped that a pause or temporary solution would be presented by the council until more time could be devoted to a long term solution,” he wrote.
Oliver said councilors supported looking into the charges and their effects, but did not direct city staff to take interim action at Tuesday’s meeting. He said he understood the plan was to address the matter early next year, after a new council takes office.
“I am not sure what this means for Common Fields and the other small businesses affected by these newly forced SDC’s in the short term,” he wrote. “I hope that when a fix is finally made some time next year Common Fields will still be here.”
The issue has also reached television viewers outside Corvallis. In a KVAL report from Eugene, Teshala Whipple, owner of 4 Chicken, described what the charges could mean for her business, “If they go ahead with it, then we’ll close. That’s it.”
KVAL also reported that the council would fold food-truck fees into a broader SDC review in 2027.
The stakes extend beyond Common Fields. In 2024, the city awarded Las Doñas del Sur $250,000 to help nine entrepreneurs buy and operate food trucks together in South Corvallis. Now their future remains uncertain as well.

For now, Oliver said Common Fields will “continue to operate business as usual until we are told otherwise.”
He asked supporters to keep contacting city officials and signing the petition seeking a change to the charges.
