Yes! Let’s switch the money around and move it to making a more accessible river. Bend has a wheelchair ramp to the river and an even terrain with handrail for safety. Sign me up! I need to go to the next town hall we don’t need a civic campus we need accessibility to our town and the river.
As mentioned in another comment, Albany has its River Rythms and its new amphitheater. Bringing people to Corvallis in the summer doesn’t have to involve big infrastructure projects, although making more connections to and use of the river is a great idea. Corvallis needs a regular (weekly, biweekly, monthly) concert event. Other than Independence Day and what passes as DeVinci Days, summers here are a bit of a letdown. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Corvallis, its sleepy small town atmosphere during the summer, and everything OSU brings to our community, but it could have more for those of us who stick around after school is out.
Just look at Independence with an amphitheater next to the river, Albany also. But we do have steep banks so you’d have to go north by Spaghetti factory to do much
It is a different scenario with the embankment. Being steep. And the river is wide. There are still some options though. You could put in a river walk, a pier of sorts or a landing. We are going make some visual conceptuals and create a second write up.
I agree with Lee. Another city to look at in comparison (university town, comparable population, river access) is Missoula, Montana. They are much more proactive about river access points, including how they connect to nearby businesses. Floating the Clark Fork with friends and then walking directly into town to grab lunch on a Sunday is such a treat! I feel like we could do something similar on the Willamette.

Yes a weekly concert series in the summer on the water would be great for the community.
Lee has a great point. I would add that we can’t even see the river downtown because it is so overgrown, let’s prioritize fixing this.
