We Welcome A Bold New Festival To Corvallis
Music is medicine, art doesn’t need permission, and coming together in community still matters
The best stories don't come from a computer… they come from living here, talking to people, asking questions, and interacting, face-to-face. We talked to the Sommer of The Witch Festival organizers at Open Streets Corvallis on Sunday.
Launching a brand-new festival is no small feat, but that's exactly what this group of inspiring young locals has done. New and quirky events like this add something special to our town. They add character, bring in business, and give us a reason to come together.
Don’t think Corvallis has an appetite for festivals and events like this? It does. We do. Even the 1st Annual Corvallis Kitty Contest proved this.
Organizers say the festival is almost sold out. That speaks volumes about the desire and demand for events like this, especially in their first year.
Sommer of The Witch is a family-friendly music, art, and tattoo festival coming to Corvallis' Central Park on Saturday, July 11. The festival runs from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Organizers say they have 400 tickets available, and they are almost sold out. Once you factor in the performers, vendors, staff, artists, and volunteers, it's shaping up to be a pretty lively event.
The festival was built around a simple but meaningful idea “music is medicine, art doesn’t need permission, and coming together in community still matters.”
The festival will feature live musical guests all the way from New Orleans, Texas and local performers. They will also have local artists, tattoo artists, vendors, food, interactive activities, and family-friendly experiences, all designed to celebrate creativity and community. Children under 12 are welcome.
Organizers say, “Let’s gather together a little louder, feel alive and untamed, indulge in creative expression, and experience community as a living force.”
Whether the festival becomes a long-standing tradition remains to be seen, but simply organizing an event like this deserves recognition in its own right. Bringing together musicians, artists, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees takes months, or even years, of planning, dreaming, and more behind-the-scenes work than most people can imagine.
It’s nice to see dreams coming to fruition.
Sommer of The Witch is doing something different. It’s a bold title. Different is good. They support local artists and small businesses, and are creating opportunities for people to connect and add another unique experience to the city’s calendar of events.
If the community continues to support initiatives like this, hopefully it won’t be the last time Sommer of The Witch casts its spell on Corvallis. Maybe next year they’ll need a larger venue. Maybe it will inspire others to come together and create their own events, with their own personal touches, their own inspirations, and their own way of sharing these attributes with the community.
We are excited and grateful for the opportunity and time these organizers have dedicated to our town. Let them set a precedent. A launching point. A festival that has a story in which others can follow their path.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite here.
