Corvallis Quality of Life Remains Strong Amid Growing Affordability Concerns
CORVALLIS – A comprehensive new survey of local residents shows that while Corvallis remains a highly desirable place to live, rising costs and housing shortages are beginning to weigh on the community’s long-term outlook.

The 2025 National Community Survey, which gathered input from over 500 representative households, found that 81% of residents still rate Corvallis as an “excellent” or “good” place to live. However, only 68% of respondents plan to remain in the city for the next five years, a figure that is significantly lower than national averages.

High Marks for Trails and Transit
The city’s commitment to non-car travel continues to pay off. Corvallis scored much higher than national benchmarks in several transportation categories:
Alternative Travel: Ease of travel by public transit, bicycle, and walking all received top-tier ratings.
Natural Environment: 86% of residents praised the overall quality of the natural environment.
Safety: 95% of neighbors feel safe in their residential areas during the day, and 87% feel secure in downtown commercial zones.
Economic “Focus Areas” Identified
Despite these strengths, the report identified sharp downward trends in economic health. Only 38% of residents rated the city’s overall economic health as positive, a decline from 61% in 2023.

Housing remains the most critical pain point. A mere 6% of residents reported that affordable, quality housing is available in Corvallis. Other areas scoring below national averages include:
Cost of Living: Rated much lower than similar communities nationwide.
Employment Opportunities: Only 19% of residents gave positive marks for job availability.
Growth Planning: Both residential and commercial growth planning were viewed as lagging behind community needs.
Confidence in Local Governance
While resident confidence in the federal government has dipped to 21%, the City of Corvallis maintains a “similar” rating to national benchmarks for its services. Approximately 77% of residents reported positive experiences with city employee customer service.
